Join George Mason University’s (GMU) Center for Excellence in Government Cybersecurity Risk Management and Resilience (CRC), the Center for Assurance Research and Engineering (CARE), the Donald G. Costello College of Business, the Financial Technology & Cybersecurity Center, and the International Academy of CIO (IAC) on December 9th and 10th in Arlington, Virginia and online / hybrid for the CIOs, AI and the Outlook for IT Modernization Conference.

AI is providing a new foundation and invigoration to IT Modernization initiatives worldwide and correspondingly is having major impacts on workforces and careers.

The conference brings together government and private sector executives and academia to review and discuss the latest IT Modernization possibilities, impacts and challenges and project the outlook for the coming years. The discussions will include CIO and leadership and governance considerations; policy and regulation philosophies, alternatives and ramifications; and society, workforce and career dynamics.

The conference is going to include focus sessions on AI and financial services, AI and government, AI and education and AI and healthcare / medicine.

The conference also brings together speakers and participants from U.S., Asia, Europe, Africa and South America on the 20th anniversary of the founding of the International Academy of CIO.

George Mason’s Center of Excellence in Government Cybersecurity Risk Management and Resilience (CRC) was founded in November 2023. The Center of Excellence serves as a strategic partner in federal, state and local government cybersecurity and IT modernization efforts. CRC translates state-of-the-art research into practice, provides executive education and convenes workshops and conferences on current government cybersecurity and IT modernization challenges, disseminates best practices, and fosters cybersecurity and IT modernization organizational capacity within federal, state and local governments. The College of Engineering and Computing at George Mason University hosts the Center for Assurance Research & Engineering (CARE).  CARE’s multidisciplinary approach to cybersecurity encompasses the fields of technology, policy, business and leadership. Through partnerships with government and private industry, innovative research is translated into practices and policies used in real-world settings. Research includes security for distributed systems, mobile apps/devices, industrial control systems, and new technologies such as networked medical devices, as well as policies development for securing critical infrastructure and guidance for cybersecurity leadership/governance. The IAC or International Academy of CIO was founded in 2006 in Japan by co-founders including Japan, USA, Indonesia, Philippines, Switzerland and Thailand. The IAC members, partnerships and alliances now span all regions with participation from over 50 countries and partners with NGOs and multilateral organizations such as APEC, OECD and ITU.

The IAC promotes and facilitates CIO and IT Executive leadership education and education standards; government CIO and IT governance policies and institution building related to CIOs and CIO Councils; and application and innovation of ICT such as AI, quantum computing, and IoT in areas including ICT and ageing society, smart cities, and ICT and natural disasters.

 
The IAC publishes the annual Waseda University – IAC Digital Government Rankings now in its 19th year! The IAC also partners with IOS Press on a Global E-Governance book series. In education, the IAC accredits CIO master’s degree programs and provides CIO certificates to graduates as well as directly partners in training on topics including CIO, AI, and cybersecurity.
